Jennifer E. Decker

Jennifer Decker graduated from the Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark College of Law in 2000. During law school, she was a member of the BYU Law Review, Moot Court and Trial Advocacy Teams and Women’s Law Forum Board. Jennifer was the Government, Politics & Legal Society Vice-President and chairperson of the annual State and Local Government Conference. She received her Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, from Utah State University in 1997 with a Political Science major and Philosophy and Social Work minors. She was honored as the Most Outstanding Political Science Graduate and was also the recipient of the prestigious ASA Bullen Law scholarship and other Academic Honors scholarships.

Jennifer also published “Innovative Government—Contracting Services: A Guidebook for Utah Cities and Towns.” Since graduation, Jennifer continues to be active in local politics and served as an elected Councilperson for the City of Woods Cross, Utah, from 2005 to 2007. She was the driving force behind getting Woods Cross to be the first city in Davis County to institute a curbside recycling program.

Jennifer has been admitted to the Utah State Bar, 2000; United States District Court for the District of Utah, 2000; and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit, 2002.

  • Currently representing the owners of a company in relation to ongoing federal investigations and civil lawsuits stemming from catastrophic events that resulted in the tragic deaths of nine people.
  • Successfully defended through trial dispute over alleged damages to a commercial building leased by commercial tenant after the premises were vacated at the end of the term of the lease. After trial, the Court granted judgment in favor of the commercial tenant, including its counterclaim for the return of the security deposit and its attorney fees and costs.
  • Successfully defended through trial dispute over wrongful liens filed against property owner’s land. The Court ruled in favor of the property owner, handing down a one-third million dollar judgment in favor of the property owner, including treble damages and attorney fees and costs.
  • Successfully represented real estate developer in multi-million dollar dispute over large residential real estate development project located in Utah County, Utah. The parties ultimately settled on the eve of trial.
  • Successfully negotiated multi-million dollar settlement between large warehousing landlord and construction company over landlord liens filed against the landlord’s real property.
  • Successfully brokered settlement in long-standing real estate dispute over residential real estate development project located in Davis County, Utah.
  • Successfully represented prominent web developer in all aspects of business planning and litigation.
  • Successfully negotiated insurance settlements for policy limits on behalf of minor children injured in auto-pedestrian accidents.
  • Successfully represented hundreds of clients in preparing, drafting and executing appropriate estate planning documents, including wills, living wills/health care directives, powers of attorney and living trusts and insurance trusts.
  • Successfully represented numerous personal representatives and trustees in all aspects of probate estate and trust administration.
  • Successfully represented creditors asserting claims against probate estates.
  • Successfully represented hundreds of clients in obtaining guardianships and conservatorships over incapacitated adults and minor children with special needs.
  • Successfully obtained Court approval of several settlements brokered on behalf of minor children and appointment of conservators to act on behalf of the children in executing the settlement agreements.
